The first of our calves have been born and they are always a pleasure. Some will stick close to their mothers at all times, others will stay where they are told regardless of any of our enthusiastic promptings, all are totally dependent.
This does not last though. Give them a couple of months and they will make it quite clear that they have most everything worked out. It is a joy to watch fifty calves sprinting across the landscape in the winter sunlight, oblivious to their mother’s pleading calls.
