Winter sun

Winter sun

Following a heavy frost one morning last week we remarked that the presence of sunshine and the absence of wind makes all the difference on a winter’s day. Once the sun had chased away the frost this day was one of those perfect winter days. Cold by the thermometer but clear, still and bathed in sunshine.

Contrast this with a day like yesterday that was slightly warmer but the drizzly rain and wind made a liar out of the mercury.

The effects on the animals are noticeable. No cow or sheep thrives during a run of wet, wintery days. They need the sun as much as the grass they eat.
