Pig words

What’s in a word? We use the term ‘pastured pork’ to describe the life our pigs lead - always outside amongst the grass, always moving.

Compare this to what is generally described as ‘free range pork’. In this system pigs are always outside but never (or rarely) moved. Of course, keeping pigs outside is infinitely preferable to keeping the inside on concrete or slats but their immediate environment can suffer. There just isn’t enough time for the plants to recover and grow.

Confine any animal - cows, sheep, pigs, chickens - to the same paddock for an extended period of time and you will eventually have the same problem. The answer is movement.
