Imitating Nature

Imitating Nature

The planned, constant movement of our cattle and sheep across the farm is our attempt to imitate nature; to mimic the huge herds of grazing animals that were once driven ever onwards across the landscape by following predators.

Grasses coevolved with these herds so, for my mind, recreating herd movement is the best way to provide an environment for grasses to thrive.

The movement of our small (by prehistoric standards) herd is only a mimicry and I am certain that if humanity disappeared nature would fill the space with abundance.

For now, we are doing the best we can.
