Welcome swallows make their homes all over the farm. The acrobatic flyers are a common sight swooping overhead whenever and wherever insects take to the wing.
Their telltale mud nests can be found in the rafters of every shed, attached to the girders of the bridge and under the eaves of our verandahs. This close to winter the nests have been abandoned but they will rebuilt with spring to bring on the next generation.
My personal favourites nest under the roof of one of the pig houses. Our houses are mobile, moving every week, but that has not deterred the birds. The perfect nest is worth an hour of irritation.
