Farming with nature

Farming with nature

Trailing behind our herd of cattle last week, we witnessed the integration of nature in action.

Hoof after hoof travelling in the same direction disturbed thousands of tiny butterflies who were forced to take flight to escape the unheeding cattle only to be met by a flock of swallows on the wing who did not miss their opportunity.

They were obviously waiting for this moment. A behaviour adapted to the movement of cattle from those of the extinct herds that once roamed Australia.

I imagine our sight would pale into insignificance compared to those that once were but it was thrilling nonetheless.
